A Utility Extension in Storrington

Overview

Our clients were a retired couple residing in a peaceful neighbourhood in West Sussex. They approached us with a clear vision: they wanted a practical yet elegant side extension to improve their daily routines. Central to their brief was the desire for a dedicated utility space that seamlessly integrated into their home.

The couple requested a side extension that would serve primarily as a utility room, offering ample storage for laundry, household essentials, and overflow storage for their kitchen. Their priority was ease of access, practicality, and a design that complemented the existing architecture of their cherished home.

Demolishing a previously unconnected outbuilding we made way for a full side extension. The completed side extension gracefully enhances the home’s profile, providing the retired couple with a bespoke utility room that significantly simplifies their daily routines.

We designed the extension, handled all the paperwork including the planning application and did a full contract tender and contract administration service to check on site whilst the construction phase was happening to ensure quality and materials were as prescribed.

I would like to congratulate Spruce Architecture for helping us through the process for our recently completed utility extension. Although probably smaller in value than many projects you handle, I believe it was treated with the same respect and professional activity throughout. From the first call with Lydia through to the visit by and ongoing  leadership, innovation, and advice of Ashley, our nervousness and uncertainty about this investment was eliminated.

We particularly liked the phased approach to the project activity and in the first of these, the ability to look at a few design options with their associated price budgets, before we pressed the ‘GO’ button on the selected solution.

Once the build process started, the independent nature and calm advice of Ashley to both owner and builder was a positive aspect of the project management as a whole, and gave us a route to discuss any issues as the project developed.

We were also grateful for the selection of ‘trusted’ companies to bid for the project, and I believe we benefited from Ashley’s ongoing business relationship though other projects, with the selected builder. Thanks for a sterling job with a successful conclusion, in the budget and timescale we wanted.
