Design and fit out for Sussex Audiology Centre
Atelier Lewes, East Sussex
Our client runs a successful chain of Audiology centres across Sussex, and the vacant site in the new build development Atelier in Lewes became available appealed as it had a large “shopfront” which was prominent for brand exposure as well as for the benefit of natural light throughout. The location is slightly further away than the other branches, so it allowed for the creation of a new hub to capture the nearby client base in the local area.
Being simply a shell, there was also an opportunity to create a contemporary and vibrant space to act as the “Flagship” practice.
Our client wanted to create a dynamic and modern space and through conversation, we encouraged them to adopt a modern aesthetic through exposed brickwork and steel, while also minimising the use of materials to make the spaces seem uncluttered. We didn’t need planning approval for these works which sped up the project.
The fit out was required to provide three consultation rooms, with associated storage, a large and open reception, toilet and staff/meeting space with kitchenette. Each room had to accommodate an audiology booth for testing, as well as a desk, sink and associated power outlets, but crucially, had to have privacy and acoustic separation at the heart of the design. The fit out was required to retain the existing stairs in place and not to make any structural alterations to optimise the client’s budget.
Through the design process, the current arrangement was arrived at, which was a flowing series of rooms with sharp and contemporary detailing to the partitions. Some timber cladding has softened the aesthetic appearance and the double-height space is a dynamic and welcoming space. The design collaboration extended to colour choice, flooring finishes and lighting choices to create a cohesive and attractive space.
All-in-all, the design has been very well received by both the users and clients alike and Spruce Architecture are proud to have been able to make the aspirations of the client into a reality.
