Modern Two-Storey Oast House Extension – Crowborough

Large modern two-storey oast house extension

Crowborough, East Sussex

The client brief on this project was to modernise the design of the house and to make the most of the beautiful views across the valley to the east through the addition of more glazing. Through a very contrasting modern design, while still respecting the character of the existing building, we created a new large extension which was an unlisted heritage asset. It included the removal of a previous old conservatory to make space for the new extension.

Significant constraints were that the property was set within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and it occupies a setting with designated Ancient Woodland lies to the south. Whilst the property is not listed, it was considered a non-designated heritage asset.
