Revitalising a historic Hastings landmark with care

One of our developer clients came to us after purchasing a high profile dis-used building which originally held an arcade and night club over several floors in Hastings Old Town. The site, near Hastings Castle, has a steep hill directly behind it adding to complexity of the design.

Four commercial units to hold new shops were required on the ground floor with three floors of residential apartments and duplexes were designed for the upper floors, many with sea views. Twenty residential units were planned, some with balcony spaces ranging from one bedroom to three bedrooms.

Part of the building is Grade II listed as well as being in a key part of Hastings Old Town in a conservation area so we wanted the blend the new building in whilst giving it a fresh look with six separate facades. We worked with the planning office and their heritage specialist as well as local conservation and trading groups to ensure the community benefited from the development as well as our client.
